When/how did you get started in crafting? In 2003 when I became disabled I decided to teach myself to sew to keep from going nuts. I have been painting and been crafty for as longs as I can remember growing up. In 2004 my youngest daughter got me hooked on Melt/Pour Soaping so we set up Sassy Soaps N Such for our Soap. Now she is off at Beauty School and she gives me the designs and I create the soaps in between making dolls and patterns.

What medium do you design with and why did you choose it? I mainly like to sew cloth dolls and ornies but have been known to make melt and pour soaps too. I choose cloth and sewing to keep from going nuts when I lost both my hearing and my ability to get around.

What/Who inspires you? Most of my dolls and ornies are inspired by graphics created by Carm with Shweet Potato Designs (with her permission of course).

Do you have a work room/studio? No I live in a tiny apartment but I have a small corner in the living room that the girls and hubby call my sewing recliner.

What do you do when you get a creative block? That’s easy I soap. If I can’t sew I am usually propped up in the kitchen making fun melt and pour soaps.

Do you have a “Day Job”, or is this your sole employment? No I am what you call disabled. This is not my employment it is my therapy, it keeps me somewhat sane.

Do you find that there are ebbs and flows of income with your business? How do you handle the unsteadiness, if there is any? For sure and lately more ebbs than flows. After some pushing from online friends I decided to make my creations into patterns and ePattern so that has been a nice steady income. Now it is a matter of finding the energy to sit and write up what I create.

Do you have future plans for your business? I plan to expand my Shweet Potato Dolls N Pattern line as long as I am able to type and sew. I would love to learn and perfect Cold Process Soaping and work along side Kassy in making a designer line. We have started a charity blog that we are working to incorporate as a not for profit; Shweet Creations 4 Cures. As a business we have adopted an Autism Classroom at my girls old elementary school and hope to expand to some of the other local Autism Classrooms soon.
